New images emerge of Android 5.0 Lollipop on the HTC One M8 These screenshots show Android Lollipop running on the HTC One M8 (credit: @LlabTooFeR)

Screenshots posted online appear to show Android 5.0 Lollipop running on the HTC One M8.

The images, posted by the LlabTooFeR Twitter account, show what HTC's bespoke Android interface, HTC Sense 6.0, will look like running Google's latest version of the Android mobile operating system.

As we can see from the screenshots, HTC is using the flat 'Material Design' aesthetic of Android 5.0 Lollipop in its HTC Sense 6.0 interface.

On November 4 HTC itself took to Twitter to announce that it had got the Android 5.0 Lollipop code and that it will update the HTC One M8 within 90 days.

While waiting for the Lollipop update to hit the HTC One M8 these screenshots at least give us an idea of what we can expect.

HTC's sweetening its Google Play editions with Lollipop next week

HTC's sweetening its Google Play editions with Lollipop next week We sense an update

HTC has indicated that the Google Play versions of the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8 will be in line for an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop next week.

The confirmation came from HTC's Mo Versi who replied to a tweet stating the target for the upgrade was early next week. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to shed any light on when the standard M7 and M8 handsets can expect the update.

HTC has previously said it will aim to get the update out to its standard phones within 90 days of receiving the final code from Google.

The move isn't altogether a surprise as last year HTC brought the Android 4.4.2 update to the Google Play version of the HTC One M7 before the standard model running HTC's Sense UI.

LG G3 Android Lollipop update has a new heart rate feature for G Watch R

LG G3 Android Lollipop update has a new heart rate feature for G Watch R About to learn some new tricks

The LG G3 will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update before the end of 2014, and with it comes additional functionality for the G Watch R.

LG says it expects to roll Android 5.0 out to its flagship towards the end of November or early December, which will make it one of the first devices other than the Nexus range to sport Google's latest software.

The Lollipop boost will also see LG's Health application sync up nicely with the G Watch R, with automatic heart rate readings taken throughout the day along with step counting.

This is a similar feature to the Moto 360, where Motorola has its own app for the smartwatch to monitor heart rate at regular intervals.

Motorola's feature, however, is available on any Android handset thanks to a downloadable app, while LG's offering will, for the time being, be exclusive to the Lollipop-toting G3.

You'll be able to adjust the frequency of the readings - the fewer, the better it will be for battery life - or if you're not that bothered at all you'll be able to turn it off completely.

Users sporting Android handsets will also be able to look forward to more Android Wear features in the future, with LG confirming that you'll benefit from extra functionality with the latest version of Google's platform.

One of those additional features, announced by Google earlier this year, is the ability to unlock your smartphone by its proximity to your smartwatch.

Another feature unlocked recently by the search giant is the ability for Android Wear smartwatches to use built-in GPS, but the G Watch R doesn't sport its own location tech.

It instead relies on your smartphone's GPS, as do all the current Android Wear watches other than the Sony Smartwatch 3, and LG told TechRadar its omission is purely down to battery consumption.

Android Lollipop will let you wake your phone just by picking it up

Android Lollipop will let you wake your phone just by picking it up Lollipop is shaping up to be a sweet treat

In these busy modern times, who can be bothered to manually wake up their phone? Not us (even though we do) and luckily Google feels our pain because with Android 5.0 Lollipop it's adding a new feature called 'Ambient display'.

Although the feature hasn't made it in to the developer preview it has been spied in an image taken from the full Android 5.0 ROM and leaked by developer Prashant Gahlot.

The image not only shows the setting toggle, but also an explanation that it will "wake screen when device picked up or notifications arrive."

Ambient display

This follows a similar but not identical piece of text on the official Android Lollipop page, which says "where supported by the hardware, your device will wake up as soon as you pick it up or tap the screen twice."

So it seems clear that whether it happens automatically or with a quick double tap, turning the screen on could become even faster and more intuitive than it is now.

It's a feature that's clearly inspired by Moto Display on the Moto X, but it's a good idea so we're happy to see it make its way to more phones.

As to which phones specifically will support it that's less clear, presumably it simply requires the right selection of sensors, which hopefully means most recent handsets will support it, but that remains to be seen.
